LEADERSHIP COUNCIL REMARKS
H. C. BISSELL
February 6, 2012
Good morning everybody. Our Slight Edge has been showing off again this morning and it is Ray Sepesy with his pictures. Ray is displaying the pictures that he has taken between Leadership Council meetings to give you a review of some events and projects. The Franchise Player event last week was certainly one of the highlights of the year, which is not to take away from this morning which is going to be a highlight when we have a chance to tour the newly renovated Courtyard.
Our mission - all is well. We are growing and we have a lot of things to do and we are doing them better than we have ever done them before. Over the weekend Honda started the move into their new facility immediately to the west of us. By seeing the pictures of the SPX topping out event you are now able to see how it is going to look molded and sculpted into the golf geography and most particularly the second hole. It is going to be absolutely spectacular.
We are doing a lot of little things. I know it has been mentioned in this meeting and I know most of you have seen it, but the Atkins Nursery which is to the north of the Sherrill and Betsill Buildings has 450 white crepe myrtles in it which will remedy our situation as to what to put there and it will give us seasonal color in the summer being a low maintenance plant which will make a tremendous difference as you drive into Ballantyne off of 485. Hopefully, if the weather holds up this week we will get a crew in to clear up the creek that runs between Atkins and Sherrill. There is a lot of debris that is falling into it and trees that are half down will be cleaned up and hauled out of there.
We are constantly Falling Forward and we trying to continue to make the investment of time, of people and of dollars in this Corporate Park to make it something that others have never seen. It is going to take the effort of all of us with our ideas and the best ideas in the organization come from the people who are on the front line. One of your jobs is to be the conduit; getting those ideas where little things need to be done because it is the small things that make the difference.
In the last year through Alicia’s group, we have spent $11,056,680 in tenant upfit construction. This is approximately $3 million ahead of the year before. When I give you that figure, it does not include Premier’s upfit as their upfit was $13 million, which was an entire project team although it is not the way we normally handle projects. However, if you looked at the cash out last year, we spent $24 million in tenant upfits. Every nickel of cash generated in this Park from all sources last year was reinvested in the Park and again this year 100% will be reinvested in the Park.
We are constantly making an effort to sow seeds for tomorrow and we have a lot to do to get to where we are going. The slide that you see up in front of you was on Page A-3 of the Investor’s Business Daily* on Friday. I cannot say it any better than those two quotes.
It has not been announced yet and it is probably not final, but last week we spent a great deal of time trying to make sure that we created the safest conditions possible when the Ballantyne Hotel pool reopens this spring. We have decided to play the golf course on 18 as it is at the present time until Memorial Day. The day the pool opens the 18th hole will change to a par 3 and there will be a temporary tee directly east of the gazebo area at the pool. If a ball lands in the pool from that tee, we will never know how it got there. It is a temporary fix and the risk will be absolutely minimal.
On the morning of June 1, we will begin to build a new green for the 18th hole just across the creek as you come down from the tee. The 18th hole will be a par 3 with a pretty good carry to get over the creek to get to the green and if a ball should happen to get into the pool from there, there is going to be a tremendous amount of liability on the person who hit the ball because it is going to be a malicious act and it is going to be something that we could not have prepared for. Again, I think a part of Falling Forward is that we need to eliminate risk and always stress safety.
When we topped out SPX and each of the ten story buildings at North Community House Road, we had over 100,000 hours on each of those jobs where work had been performed safely without any loss time due to accidents. Safety is very, very important – it is paramount. We want to make sure that we have a safe atmosphere throughout the Park for everybody who toils here on our teams daily and everybody who works here daily.
At the present time, we have in excess of 400 cameras watching this Park daily. We are making every effort to make Ballantyne Corporate Park a place like no other. This is what we are doing and this is our commitment to continue to sow seeds. It is not what you did yesterday, but it what you are going to do tomorrow. It will take every one of our best efforts so on this morning after a great Super Bowl this is what I hope you all will internalize.
Thank you.
